MONDAY Q&A 11/1/21

Q: With the release of ‘the storm before the calm turning one on Halloween, how do you feel looking back at this record? I really love it!

A: Thank you! I still really love this record and am very proud of what we created here. Looking back, there was certainly some pressure as it was following up our debut finding beauty in chaos … which had received a lot of notice and press with its ‘goth super-group’ attached moniker. I think it is a bit more cohesive direction than ‘fbic’, mainly due to the writing process. I sat down and had at least 3 of the songs in rough demo form before I brought them in to work with Michael Rozon. There was a definite ‘feel’ I wanted for this album, as I had been listing a lot to some my dark vinyl. ‘Pornography’, ‘Disintegration’ and ‘First and Last and Always’ was spinning on my turntable a lot at this time. I loved the linear approach, without the obvious grand chorus sections. I think the six tracks flow well together … as I always have the romantic notion of the listener listening to the entire record; uninterrupted and in actual running order. Wishful thinking I know! The CD version contains the epic soundscape that is the title track. It has a very ‘david lynch meets Pink Floyd meets NIN vibe’. 29 minutes of sonic self-indulgence I guess! Also, the vinyl’s final track, “Stranger”, featuring Holy Wars’ Kat Leon , foreshadows our upcoming release, ‘Behind The Veil’ !
