Moody Masterpiece: Textural Master Michael Ciravolo Discusses 'Finding Beauty in Chaos'

Over the years, L.A.-based musician Michael Ciravolo has played guitar with bands like Human Drama and Gene Loves Jezebel. But when it came to his new project, Beauty in Chaos, he had a particular goal in mind — to see if he could conjure in the studio all the sounds and textures he’d been hearing in his head.
“The result of this ambition is the new Finding Beauty in Chaos, a record of stunning musical and, in particular, six-string intricacy that mixes Ciravolo’s love of rock, pop, post-punk, goth, new wave and other styles and wraps it all in layers of lush, ringing, occasionally grimy and often heavily effected guitars. ”

Michael Ciravolo the man behind Beauty In Chaos has done it again with a heavier and bigger ensemble of hard hitters. With the voice of Kings X own dUg Pinnick and Body Count's Ice-T flowing through this chunk pounding guitar track. It doesn't stop there, Zakk Wylde steps into the mix with a chaotic guitar solo that only he can do.

Guitarist Michael Ciravolo assembled an all-star cast for his moody, hard-hitting 2018 album Finding Beauty in Chaos. Ministry’s Al Jourgensen, Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander, Van Halen’s Michael Anthony, the Cure’s Simon Gallup and many others contributed to the LP, released under the project name Beauty in Chaos. Now, Ciravolo — who has worked with bands including Human Drama and Gene Loves Jezebel and also serves as president of Schecter Guitar Research — and producer Michael Rozon are prepping Beauty Re-Envisioned, a companion release featuring remixes and alternate versions of the album’s tracks.

‘Look Up’ continues the sonically diverse guitar work that B.I.C. founder Michael Ciravolo is already well known for, but the addition of Tish’s voice gives a silky overtone to the gritty guitar driven track that, in a way, gives it a sonically ‘Ying/Yang’ type of vibe that adds to an avant-garde feel that I like to call ‘sheer originality’.

Over a year ago, Michael got the urge to create something for himself and record a new guitar album, “Finding Beauty In Chaos.” This album is not your run of the mill shedder/wank fest album but rather a soundscape of multi layered guitar album using nothing but guitar effects, real drums and bass. Today we’re proud to premiere a fantastic cover track off of Finding Beauty In Chaos and one of my own personal favorites! Al Jourgensen covering T. Rex’s “20th Century Boy” in true Ministry-esque fashion. Obviously this is an example of the “chaos” part of the title.

Upon listening to the 14 tracks on the album, it was a delight to discover such diversity between them, clearly the outcome of some great head-to-head writing between Ciravolo and his various collaborators. Here we find offerings covering indie rock and post-punk to dark wave and hard rock. ‘Man of Faith’ itself is an epic track that any lover of these genres must hear, with a sound that is as sweet as any Mission or Cure track.

Personally it feels as if someone has snuck in to my house, rummaged through my vinyl collection to see what I like and brought a large selection of those bands and artists together to make an album just for me. They even put everything back in the right place afterwards.
